About scanning electron microscopy:
Definition:
Use of an electron microscope in which a finely focused beam of electrons is electrically or magnetically moved across the specimen, again and again, and the reflected and emitted electron intensity is measured and displayed, sequentially building up an image with great depth of field. Useful for the examination of opaque objects. [Adapted from Glossary of Geology, 4th ed.]
