Definition:
a) Transformation of loosely packed sediment into a fluid mass preliminary to movement of a turbidity current by subaqueous slumping or sliding or in situ. b) In cohesionless soil, the transformation from a solid to a liquid state as a result of increased pore pressure and reduced effective stress.
