The following is a list of NWFSC publication types. A brief description of each type is provided to help you
locate the information you need.
Note: These listings are not complete. We are in the process of making a more complete listing, with
more documents, available to you.
Research Publications
- Journal Articles
These articles include those authored or co-authored by NWFSC scientists and published in scientific journals.
- Books
- Book Chapters
Chapters in books, tech memos, contract reports are listed here.
- White Papers
White papers present preliminary research findings for discussion before results are finalized.
- Technical Memorandums
The NWFSC uses the NOAA Technical Memorandum series to issue informal scientific and technical publications when complete formal review and editorial processing are not appropriate or feasible due to time constraints. Documents within this series reflect sound professional work and may be referenced in the formal scientific and technical literature.
- Abstracts
Abstracts are summaries of journal articles.

Other
- Research Plans
Research Plans are typically used as internal working documents and sometimes provided to the public in a revised form suitable for a more general audience.
- Contract Reports
Contract Reports are written to satisfy contractual agreements for research requested by organizations
such as the Bonneville Power Administration and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Because they are not formally reviewed, these reports are not
considered "scientific publications".
- Survey Results
Surveys are conducted to provide information on distribution, abundance and other biological resource information to assess the status of important fish stocks.
Preliminary results from the surveys are summarized in the reports listed here.
- Patents
- Miscellaneous
This category includes reports and papers such as master theses, dissertations, etc. that don't fall into other categories.
- Submitted Papers/In Press/In Review
This category includes articles, chapters for books, etc that have been submitted for
publication or are currently "in press" or "in review".
