Coming to Washington, D.C. |
On May 28-31, 2005, people from throughout the world will converge on Washington, D.C.,
for the 5th World Bonsai Convention. Over the past three years, the U.S. National
Arboretum has been working cooperatively with the American Bonsai Society, Bonsai
Clubs International, the National Bonsai Foundation, and the Potomac Bonsai Association
to bring this important world meeting to our Nation’s Capital.
This will be a rare opportunity to see many of the foremost bonsai and penjing masters in the world demonstrate their expert techniques. Workshops conducted by outstanding practitioners allow participants the opportunity to create a bonsai specimen or a miniature flower arrangement. Lectures by prominent scholars on bonsai, viewing stones, and pots are planned for each day of the three-day event. Exhibits of outstanding bonsai and penjing specimens, viewing stones, and pots will be on display throughout the convention. Numerous vendors will display and sell bonsai-related items. A dinner and tours of the Arboretum’s National Bonsai and Penjing Museum are planned for Sunday, May 29th. This museum is the oldest and most comprehensive museum of its kind in the Western World and this convention will provide an opportunity for the Arboretum to showcase this outstanding facility. Save the dates and register early for this National Arboretum co-sponsored event, which is hosted by the North American Bonsai Federation as the representative of the World Bonsai Friendship Federation (WBFF). Conventions are held every four years; the 2001 meeting was held in Munich, Germany. The event in Washington, D.C. is only the second time this convention has been held in the United States.
