Lotus is a hardy aquatic plant that spreads by rhizomes. This aquatic perennial, originally from Indonesia
and India, and sometimes called the Sacred Lotus, can grow to a height of 19 feet depending on the depth of the
water it is growing in. The roots of sacred lotus are firmly planted in the mud beneath the water surface
and the plant has long stems to which the leaves and flowers are attached. The Sacred Lotus can be grown in
USDA hardiness zones 4 through 11. You can find lotus pods in the aquatic garden
near the Administration Building.
