Geographic Perspectives

This area of the NBII conceptualizes, organizes, and displays a wide range of information from geographical and geospatial perspectives.

U.S. Programs and Activities: This area provides access at local state, and national levels to data and information produced by federal, state, and non-government agencies and organizations.
International: This section facilitates the exchange of information with other nations and international organizations. International biological sites include those of government agencies and biodiversity conservation organizations. While the site is comprehensive in scope, it emphasizes sites of nations that share biological resources, have similar ecosystems, and address conservation issues that are important to the United States.
California Information Node: Provides data discovery, exchange, and interoperability for resources critical to the study of California's diverse ecosystems, with an initial emphasis on invasive species issues.
Central Southwest/Gulf Coast Information Node: Addresses the biodiversity aspects of sustainable development within the region - including Texas, Arkansas, and Louisiana - through research into the applications of new geospatial data analysis and visualization technologies.
Northern Rockies Information Node: Focuses on an area covered by the Rocky Mountain Range from Wyoming north into Canada, including the Greater Yellowstone region and Glacier National Park, with an emphasis on the affects of climate change, land use and change, and water issues.
Pacific Basin Information Node: Emphasizes biodiversity information acquisition, analysis and application for the state of Hawai'i and the countries and islands of the Pacific, with an early focus on invasive species and coral reefs.
Pacific Northwest Information Node: Examines natural resources management and use in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho, with a current emphasis on forestry issues.
Southern Appalachian Information Node: Focuses on providing access to data and information that will facilitate tracking, understanding and predicting changes in biodiversity in Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama, and Mississippi, with a particular interest in measuring and mitigating human impacts through technology and education.
Southwest Information Node: Examines complex environmental issues including public land use and human impacts in Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, Colorado and Utah.
