OPS Communications

Pipeline right-of-wayThe mission of the Office of Pipeline Safety (OPS) of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Research and Special Programs Administration is to ensure the safe, reliable, and environmentally sound operation of America's energy transportation pipelines. OPS regulates safety in the design, construction, operation and maintenance, and spill response planning for over 2.2 million miles of natural gas and petroleum pipelines.

OPS believes that communication is an important element in helping to assure the safety of our nation’s energy transportation pipeline infrastructure. Effective communication must occur among affected stakeholders, including communication between the regulator and the pipeline operator, between the regulator and the public, and between the operator and the public.

OPS has undertaken several initiatives to promote pipeline communication. Follow the links on this page for further information.
