  • Pathogenesis and Treatment of Lymphedema and Lymphatic Diseases

    The purpose of this program announcement is to stimulate research on the biology of the lymphatic system, to characterize at the molecular, cellular, tissue, organ, and intact organism levels, the pathophysiologic mechanisms that cause the disease, to develop new methods for quantitating and imaging lymph flow, to discover new therapeutic interventions, and to determine the safety, efficacy and mechanisms of action of complementary and alternative therapies.

    The goal of this program announcement is to increase the quality and quantity of the research content in the curricula at complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) institutions in the United States where CAM practitioners are trained.

  • General Clinical Research Center Complementary and Alternative Medicine Research Program

    The purpose of this PAR is to encourage preliminary studies of complementary and alternative medicine at the eighty General Clinical Research Centers (GCRC's) supported by the NIH National Center for Research Resources nationwide. NCCAM expects these studies to provide a foundation for larger clinical studies. In addition, this initiative is expected to expand the evaluation of CAM treatments for the wide array of diseases and conditions currently being evaluated at GCRC’s.

  • Developmental Projects in Complementary Approaches to Cancer Care

    NIH invites research grant applications from interested investigators to conduct innovative developmental pilot research investigating complementary approaches in cancer. The intent of this initiative is to encourage and support the development of basic and clinical complementary cancer research and to provide the basis for more extended research projects.

  • Diet Composition and Energy Balance

    The goal of this program announcement is to invite research applications investigating the role of diet composition in energy balance, including studies in both animals and humans. Both short and longer-term studies would be encouraged, ranging from basic studies investigating the impact of micro- or macronutrient composition on appetite, metabolism, and energy expenditure through clinical studies evaluating the efficacy of diets differing in micro- or macronutrient composition, absorption, dietary variety, or energy density for weight loss or weight maintenance.

  • NIH Clinical Trial Planning Grant (R34) Program

    The purpose of this planning grant is to provide support for the development of a Phase III clinical trial, including the establishment of the research team, the development of tools for data management and oversight of the research, the definition of recruitment strategies, and the finalization of the protocol and other essential elements of the study included in a manual of operations/procedures. This planning grant is not designed for the collection of preliminary data or the conduct of pilot studies to support the rationale for a clinical trial.

    Developmental Centers will support U19 cooperative agreements in which CAM and conventional institutions and investigators will partner to conduct exploratory and developmental research projects. These awards will provide opportunities for CAM institutions and investigators to strengthen their research expertise and infrastructure while enabling conventional researchers to gain clinical and cultural perspectives critical to the conduct of CAM research.
