Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory
(LLNL) is managed by the University of California, which is
the world’s premier public university system. The missions
of the University of California are education, research, and
public service. Our relationship with the University has provided
and continues to provide an exceptional environment in which
to build an education program.
While education is not a mission specifically
assigned to LLNL by the Department of Energy, it is an important
component of our recruiting and workforce strategy and of
our public
engagement strategy. We partner with education professionals
at all levels to design our education program, which offers
opportunities ranging from elementary school science shows
through prestigious postdoctoral fellowships.
“It is our responsibility
not only to develop the best science facilities, but also
to foster the next generation of American scientists, mathematicians
and engineers.”
The Science
and Technology Education Program is principally responsible
for LLNL’s activities associated with K-14 math and
science education challenges, while the University
Gateway highlights our undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral
education offerings. Additionally, our Public
Affairs Office provides public information, community outreach and student
education outreach activities throughout the year.
