Fermi National Laboratory

Current Status of Access to Fermilab

Due to heightened security, Fermilab currently offers limited access in accordance with the policies of the U.S. Department of Energy.

Pedestrians and bicyclists may enter the site without a visitor's pass. All Fermilab buildings are closed to the public, except for the Leon Lederman Science Education Center. The public may not drive on site without obtaining a visitor's pass.

The Fermilab Arts Series and the Film Series will take place as scheduled, and pre-arranged guided tours will continue.

Broken Symmetry and Wilson Hall

Buffalo Viewing passes are available at the Pine Street entrance.

The Ask-a-Scientist program is now on selected Sunday afternoons. Once a month, Fermilab offers special behind-the-scenes tours of its facilities with physicists on hand to answer questions. Check our recent announcements for the next tour. Pre-registration for the program is required.

All other visitors to the laboratory must obtain a pass from the security guard on Pine Street. In summary, the basic guidelines for obtaining visitors' passes are:

1. conducting business with the lab;
2. meeting with someone who works at the lab.

Thank you for your patience and understanding during these security restrictions.
