Secretary Thompson Names New Migrant Council Members

HHS Secretary Tommy G. Thompson has appointed three new members to four-year terms on the National Advisory Council on Migrant Health (NACMH).  The council advises the Secretary on policies to increase the effectiveness of migrant health centers in meeting the primary health care needs of migrant and seasonal farmworkers.  The new members are:

·        Edward W. Colon-Quetglas, M.D., B.S.Ch.E., retired, Mayaguez, P.R.;
·        Anne Kauffman Nolon, M.P.H., Hudson River HealthCare, Inc., Peekskill, N.Y.;
·        Gilbert Walter, M.P.H., M.A., Community Health Care, Inc., Bridgeton, N.J.
 
Bruce Gould, M.D., University of Connecticut School of Medicine, Farmington, Conn., and Christina Martinez Sahagun, B.A., M.U.P.P., S.B. Friedman & Company, Chicago, have been appointed chair and vice chair, respectively, for one-year terms.
 
In addition to advising the Secretary, the council also makes specific recommendations on matters that affect the health of migrant and seasonal farmworkers and their families, such as occupational safety, housing conditions, medical and social services, and domestic and family violence services.
