Secretary Thompson Names New NACNEP Members

HHS Secretary Tommy G. Thompson recently appointed five new members to the National Advisory Council on Nurse Education and Practice (NACNEP), which advises and makes recommendations to the Secretary and Congress on nurse workforce, education and practice improvement issues.  Joining the Council for three-year terms are:
 
·        Nancy E. Cervenansky, Ph.D., R.N., N.C.C., Dean, College of Nursing, Cardinal Stritch University, Milwaukee, Wis.;

·        Paul A. Haney, Firefighter and Registered EMT, Montgomery County, Md., Fire and Rescue, Bethesda, Md.;

·        Joanne K. Itano, R.N., Ph.D., O.C.N., Associate Professor and Chair, Department of Nursing, School of Nursing and Dental Hygiene, University of Hawaii at Manoa, Honolulu;

·        Cynthia A. Prows, M.S.N., R.N., Clinical Nurse Specialist, Children’s Hospital Medical Center, Cincinnati, Ohio; and

·        Michael E. Zielaskiewicz, M.B.A., M.S.N., R.N., Vice President of Patient Care, St. Francis Hospital, Columbus, Ga.
 
In addition to advising the Secretary and Congress, NACNEP also may make specific recommendations on nursing programs administered by HRSA’s Division of Nursing, which provides executive and staffing support for NACNEP.
