United States-Mexico Border Binational Health Week: Families in Action for Health, October 11-17

HRSA, along with the HHS Office of Global Health Affairs, Mexico Secretariat of Health and the U.S.-Mexico Border Health Commission, is co-sponsoring a week of health-related events along the U.S.-Mexico border. The goal is to encourage and create sustainable behavioral practices, organizational relationships, and community structures to improve health status and reduce health disparities. “Targeted HIV Outreach and Intervention Model Development and Evaluation for Underserved HIV-Positive Populations Not-in-Care Initiative” Grantee Meeting, October 18-20

HRSA's HIV/AIDS Bureau will host this Baltimore, Md., event on data collection and analytic issues, programmatic implementation experiences, multi-site dissemination strategies, and findings from Phase I of the Initiative. Contact: Melinda Tinsley, 301-443-3496.

Advisory Committee on Training in Primary Care Medicine and Dentistry, October 21-22

HRSA's Bureau of Health Professions will host this Bethesda, Md., meeting of the advisory committee to discuss how to measure outcomes of Public Health Service Act Title VII, Section 747 grant programs. Contact: Jerilyn Glass, 301-443-6190.

HRSA Activity in the Pacific Basin, October 25

HRSA's Bureau of Health Professions’ Division of Medicine and Dentistry (DMD) will host this meeting in Rockville, Md., to focus on the cooperative agreement to plan, develop, implement, and operate a continuing clinical education program in the Pacific Basin. Closing the Gap on Access and Integration: Primary and Behavioral Health Care Summit, October 26

HRSA and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration are co-sponsoring this summit in Washington, D.C., to explore ways to expand access to and integrate quality mental health and substance abuse services with primary care, and to create strategies to enhance the infrastructure to support behavioral health in community-based settings. National Advisory Council on Nurse Education and Practice Meeting, November 3-5

Advisory Committee on Organ Transplantation Meeting, November 4-5

HRSA’s Healthcare Systems Bureau will sponsor this Washington, D.C., meeting of the advisory committee, which counsels HHS Secretary Tommy Thompson on all aspects of organ donation, procurement, transplantation, and ways to maximize Federal efforts to increase living and deceased donation nationally. “Clinical Demonstration Sites on Prevention with HIV-Infected Persons Seen in Primary Care Settings Initiative” Grantee Meeting, November 4-5

HRSA's HIV/AIDS Bureau will host this Washington, D.C., grantee meeting focusing on the initiative’s goal to implement and evaluate prevention interventions with HIV-infected individuals seen in primary care settings. Grantees will convene to discuss progress on the implementation of their interventions, address barriers, examine lessons learned, explore refinements, and discuss data collection and evaluation of their models. HRSA and Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality Conference, November 8-9

This Rockville, Md., conference, co-sponsored by HRSA and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, will address practitioner monitoring roles, responsibilities of physician practice groups and managed care organizations, under-reporting by health plans to HRSA’s National Practitioner Data Bank, and the negative impact this has on patient safety. Rural Health Quality Leadership Summit, November 8-9

HRSA's Office of Rural Health Policy, with assistance from the Rural Health Resource Center, is sponsoring this second annual event in Arlington, Va., to discuss quality improvements in service delivery and the role of rural health leaders. Contact: Forrest Calico, 301-443-0614.

Public Health Training Center (PHTC) All-Grantee Meeting, November 10

HRSA's Bureau of Health Professions is the sponsor of this Washington, D.C., meeting of 14 PHTC grantees, who are charged with improving the nation’s public health system by strengthening the technical, scientific, managerial, and leadership competence of the current and future public health workforce. National Advisory Council on Migrant Health Meeting, November 17-18

HRSA’s Bureau of Primary Health Care will host this event in Denver, held in conjunction with the Nov. 18-20 Midwest Migrant Stream Forum. The Council meets three times a year to develop annual recommendations for the Secretary on issues impacting migrant and seasonal farmworkers and their families. Contact: Gladys Cate, 301, 594-0367.

“Models of Peer Support for Caribbeans Living in the United States Initiative” Grantee Meeting, November 18-19

HRSA's HIV/AIDS Bureau will host this Miami, Fla., grantee meeting in Miami to report on the initial implementation of peer model interventions targeting HIV-positive Caribbeans living in the United States. Grantees will report on baseline enrollment and data collection, and plan for future multi-site evaluation activities. Contact: Kathleen Handley, 301-443-8109.

Midwest Migrant Stream Forum, November 18-20

The National Center for Farmworker Health will conduct this Denver, Colo., event funded in part by HRSA’s Bureau of Primary Health Care.
