Introduction and Links

The Pacific Basin Information Node is a regional node of the National Biological Information Infrastructure (NBII). NBII is a project office within the Biological Resources Division (BRD) of the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The mission of NBII is to collect and organize biological data from the U.S. and make it available to scientists, resource managers, policy-makers, educators and the general public.

PBIN was started in 2000 and consisted of node manager, Mark Fornwall, and Principle Investigator, William Steiner, of the Pacific Island Ecosystems Research Center (PIERC). Three years later, there are three full time employees, one half-time employee, a host of good partnerships, and a variety of useful products. More...

Our Mission:

PBIN strives to enable effective biodiversity management in the Pacific Basin by providing the basic framework and infrastructure for biodiversity information acquisition, analysis and application.
