Tribal Wildlife and Landowner Incentive Program Grants

The Department of Interior Related Agencies Appropriations Act of 2004 included tribal landowner incentive grant (nearly $3 million) and tribal wildlife grant (about $6 million) opportunities nationwide. In Region 3, the Great Lakes-Big Rivers Region, the Service has awarded over $1.2 million to 8 tribes in Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin for 8 projects.

The Service awards the grants under two new programs. the Tribal Wildlife Grants Program (TWG) and the Tribal Landowner Incentive Program (TLIP). These programs have tribal dedicated funds and in purpose are similar to other programs recently developed to assist partners undertaking wildlife conservation projects. Tribal Wildlife Grants awarded to tribes in Region 3 included 5 awards totaling $910,414 that had in-kind Non Federal match of $384,246 for a total value of the projects of $1,294,660. Tribal Landowner Incentive Grants awarded to tribes in Region 3 included 3 awards totaling $353,122 that had in-kind Non Federal match of $293,125 for a total value of the projects of $646,247.

Tribal Wildlife And Landowner Incentive Grants 2005 Program

Congress is currently developing the budget for 2005. When the budget is signed into law, the Fish and Wildlife Service will administer the tribal grant programs in accordance with the direction provided by Congress. As guidance we have provided below the application elements used in the 2004 grant application process. Be aware these items are provided only to demonstrate elements of the 2004 process and may change in 2005. Watch for the 2005 versions to be posted here.
