Curtis J. Smith
Ph.D.
Curt is the Myers Chair in the Center for Leadership in Public Interest, Hampden-Sydney College; and he is also an adjunct faculty member at Indiana University. From 1994 ? 1998 he was the Director of the Federal Executive Institute (FEI) and prior to his time at FEI he was the Associate Director for Retirement and Insurance, Office of Personnel Management (OPM), December l989 to August l994. He began his OPM career in l977 and has held various senior managerial and executive positions throughout OPM. In l984 Curt was selected to be senior budget examiner for personnel issues at the Office of Management and Budget, returning to OPM in l985 as Policy Advisor to the Director, Office of Personnel Management. In l986 he was named Associate Director for Career Entry and Employee Development. Curt has been awarded the Presidential Rank of Distinguished Executive, and he served on Hillary Rodham Clinton's Health Reform Working Group the winter of l993. He received his bachelor's degree from California Lutheran College and his master's and Ph.D. in English Literature from the Ohio State University. Curt is an alumnus of FEI Program l43 (July l987).
