LDS Biographies

Harsha Desai

Harsha Desai, a former chairman of the Department of Management at Loyola, is a Professor of Management in the Sellinger School of Business and Management and the Director of the Loyola Center for Closely Held Firms, an institute with a mission to assist businesses survive and prosper, providing management, marketing, and technical assistance to small- and medium-size businesses. Harsha joined Loyola College after a 13-year career with multinational corporations as an electrical and industrial engineer and internal strategy consultant in the electric utility, manufacturing, and health care industries.

At Loyola, he has team-taught seminars in Strategic Management in the Executive and Evening M.B.A. programs since the early 80s. Three years ago he also designed and introduced Entrepreneurship courses in these programs. He has co-designed, developed and introduced the Technology and Innovation Management course for the Evening M.B.A. program in the Sellinger School. He also teaches Business Policy for the undergraduates.

In addition, Harsha has conducted seminars for executives around the world ? including strategy seminars and general management workshops for business owners and at international institutes like XLRI and Symbiosis Institute (India), Renmin University (Beijing and Shanghai, China), Sripatum University (Bangkok, Thailand), Alberto Hurtado University (Santiago, Chile) and in Ryazan, Russia.

His company, Desai Associates, Inc., consults with companies of all sizes, nonprofit organizations, and government agencies here and abroad in technology and innovation management, strategy making, organizational and market research, and team building aspects and provides support for international seminars and workshops. He has worked on projects with several Federal agencies including the U.S. Small Business Administration, the U.S. Department of Energy, U.S. Department of Transportation, Department of Health and Human Services (old HEW), and the U.S. AID.

Harsha received his Ph.D. in Business Administration and an M.S. in Industrial Engineering from Penn State and a B.E. in Electrical Engineering from Poona University, India. Harsha has been elected to Beta Gamma Sigma, the national Business honor society, and Alpha Pi Mu, the national Industrial Engineering honor society.
