International Network and SWS Symposium

The International Network to Promote Household Water Treatment and Safe Storage:

The second annual meeting of the International Network to Promote Household Water Treatment and Safe Storage will be held at the Norfolk Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya, on 14-15 June 2004. The CARE/CDC/PSI Safe Water Symposium will follow the Network meeting on 16-17 June 2004. The purpose of the Network meeting is: (1) To discuss the Network work plan 2004-2005, and (2) To promote Network activities in Africa.

For information on how to register, click here. Please note there is no registration fee, but participants are kindly required to take care of their own travel and subsistence expenses. Participants will receive further information before the meeting.

International Symposium:

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), USA, Population Services International (PSI), CARE Kenya and the Nursing Council of Kenya will be hosting a symposium on June 16-17, 2004, at the Norfolk Hotel, Nairobi to highlight the contribution of household-based technologies in the provision of safe drinking water to communities lacking access to potable water. This event is expected to draw close 200 delegates representing health professionals (e.g. physicians, nurses, health educators, water experts); government agencies; representatives of multinational donor agencies, research institutions, service organizations, professional associations, private sector, and non-governmental organizations.

Theme: Beyond the Millennium Development Goal for Safe Water in Africa and Promoting Adoption of Household-based Technologies

Symposium Goals:

  • To update participants on the latest, evidence-based approaches for promoting water quality and public health at the household level.
  • To disseminate information from various safe water projects to public, private and professional stakeholders.
  • To link current interventions to the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) for Health and demonstrate how they can supplement the MDG for Water.
