Position Available:  Service Fellow Researcher

The Office of Applied Studies (OAS), Substance Abuse and Mental Health  Services Administration (SAMHSA), seeks candidates with strong quantitative/statistical research and writing skills and a terminal degree in sociology, epidemiology, economics, or other quantitative social science, for Service Fellow research positions. 

OAS is SAMHSA's focal point for data collection, analysis, and dissemination. The Office conducts the annual National Household Survey on Drug Abuse, which contains substance abuse, mental health, economic, and demographic information on approximately 70,000 individuals. OAS also collects nationwide data on approximately 12,000 substance abuse treatment facilities, characteristics of individuals admitted for treatment, and drug related episodes that appear in emergency rooms or coroners' reports. These data systems are described at http://www.oas.samhsa.gov.

Service Fellows are expected to conduct research using these data. Publication in peer-reviewed journals is expected, and research resources are excellent. Experience using PC-based programs to manage and analyze data from large, complex surveys and other
data sets is preferred.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents from countries whose citizens are authorized to work as Federal employees. Service Fellows are eligible to receive health insurance and retirement benefits. Applications considered until positions are filled. An equal opportunity employer.
