Help With Tax Questions

About This Service

This site was created to answer general tax questions. This is NOT the site for highly complex tax issues or questions regarding your specific tax account. If you need help with an account issue (i.e., any question that requires a name and social security number), feel free to contact our office by phone. The toll-free number for individual is 1-800-829-1040. The toll-free number for businesses is 1 800-829-4933.

Check Here First

Answers to many of your questions may be found on this site. Before leaving your question, please try Frequently Asked Questions and Tax Trails. If you do not find the answer to your question, try search and enter a few key words to see if your question is covered elsewhere on the site. Also check our Site Map, , Tax Topics, Taxpayer Help, Individuals, and How to Contact Us pages.

If you still need help, we can answer your tax question via e-mail if you like, however, remember:

  1. For privacy and security reasons, we DO NOT handle tax account or refund questions. That is, any question where you need to tell us your (or another person's) name, social security number or address.
  2. It is beyond the scope of this assistance to provide legal opinions, private letter rulings, determinations of taxability, or answer to highly complex questions.
  3. If you have received a letter, notice or bill, please call the number shown on the correspondence. If you need forms and publications, see Tax Topic 155. For new tax law information, see What's Hot .
  4. If you wish to report information about an individual or company you suspect is not complying with the tax law, please call 1-800-829-0433.
