New Adobe Acrobat 6 Instructions

Adobe Acrobat 6.0 and FastLane: Adobe Systems has released a new version of its Acrobat Reader and Distiller products. As of August 2004, FastLane support for these products is as follows:

Acrobat Reader 6.0: The free Acrobat Reader version 6.0 will accurately display FastLane PDFs. NSF's tests indicate that Reader 6 works adequately as a browser plug-in and accurately displays FastLane PDFs.

Acrobat 6.0 "Professional" and "Standard": Acrobat 6.0 supports a new file compression algorithm that is incompatible with previous versions of Acrobat, and with third party plug-ins that NSF uses to support PDF processing. NSF plans to add support for Acrobat 6.0 format PDFs as soon as Adobe's partners incorporate this into their supporting products.

In the meantime, we recommend that users submitting proposals to NSF not use Acrobat 6.0. In most cases, users should be able to submit project descriptions and other documents in the large variety of word processor formats, including Word, Word Perfect, and TeX, that NSF accepts.

If you do have a requirement to create your own PDFs please see the instructions for Creating FastLane PDF Files.
