Zooplankton Study (Image 2)
Caption:
This computer color-enhanced profile of zooplankton was obtained with a multi-frequency sampler. It's part of a cooperative research project involving NSF researchers and researchers from Tracor Incorporated and the Office of Naval Research to study zooplankton. The profiles were obtained using a 21-frequency sonar with chlorophyll/depth/temperature/conductivity sensors. The sonar gives readings, in real time, of the size and distribution of the zooplankton. Keeping track of zooplankton can tell the researchers where fish graze and how much they will have to eat. [Image 2 of 2 related images; see also, Zooplankton Study (Image 1).]
