EPSCoR (Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research) is an NSF program that establishes partnerships with leaders of state government, higher education, and industry to effect lasting improvements in a state’s research infrastructure and its national R&D; competitiveness.
HOIST, one of several Native American education outreach projects sponsored by the State of Idaho EPSCoR program, is designed to spark student interest in science and technology by engaging them and their teachers in hands-on, “real-life” science. Students are encouraged to complete their high school education and enter some form of post-secondary education. Both Ms. Miles and Ms. Bybee are members of the Nez Perce tribe at Lapwai, Idaho. Both went on to complete three years at Lewis and Clark State College in Lewiston.
