Desktop Manufacturing System
Caption:
This part was developed by a company in Austin, Texas, that received an NSF Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I award to investigate a concept for a desktop manufacturing system. The system uses a computer with a three-dimensional rendition of the object to be manufactured; the computer controls a laser, which "builds" the part by sintering powders, layer by layer.
