Nanocrystallites

Caption:

Different shaped ZnO nanopillars can be obtained by varying the deposition conditions. This SEM photograph shows hexagonal ZnO nanocrystallites.

More about this Image
This image was prepared as part of National Science Foundation research grant CCR 01-03096, “Feasibility Studies on ZnO Nanostructures and their Device Applications,” an exploratory research in the Nanoscale Science and Engineering Initiative Program. The goals of this project were (a) to grow ZnO-based nanoscale structures, including nanotips and nanotip arrays, nanowires, and quantum dots; and (b) to investigate the broad applications of these ZnO nanostructures in UV optoelectronics, biosensors, and advanced communications. The ZnO materials are grown using metalorganic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD).
