Wind Tunnel Experiment
Caption:
A model of downtown Minneapolis, MN is prepared for testing in the boundary layer wind tunnel at the University of Minnesota's St. Anthony Falls Laboratory (SAFL). The test will study the effects of wind on structures, including stress on windows, heat loss due to leaks, and poor air conditioning and ventilation system performance as well as the effects of wind on pedestrians such as discomfort and even danger. The National Science Foundation (NSF) supported the design and construction of the wind tunnel (NSF grant CEE 84-10532).
More recently, the SAFL was awarded a National Science Foundation Science and Technology Center award to establish the National Center for Earth Surface Dynamics. The Center will seek to identify and quantify the major physical, biological, and chemical processes that shape the Earth's surface.
