Facial Analysis for Emotion Recognition and Avatar Control

Caption:

Researchers at the Integrated Media Systems Center (IMSC) at the University of Southern California—a National Science Foundation Engineering Research Center—are investigating the creation, control, and animation of three-dimensional representations of the human face. IMSC graduate student Doug Fidaleo who conducts research on the project, is shown with 3D facial representations on screens in the background. This work is part of IMSC's overall research efforts to develop technology for 3D teleconferencing over the Internet that would result in lifelike avatars of people who would appear to be in the same room but who are really communicating over the Internet from remote locations.
