Student Visas

1. To apply for a student visa to the United States, the following documents must be presented:

  • Each applicant is required to complete an application form (DS-156) for each person who is travelling (student, spouse, and each child). Male applicants between the ages of 16 to 45 years old are required to complete additional forms (DS-157) and (DS-158). Female student visa (F-1) applicants are required to complete form (DS-158). Students may submit visa applications to the Consular section from 8:00 to 9:30 A.M. Saturday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and the first and third Sundays of every month.

  • One recent photographs 50 mm x 50 mm in size with a white background. Men must submit a photo without head covering.

  • A non-refundable application fee of USD 100 or SAR 380 and issuance fee if applicable.

  • A valid SEVIS I-20 (ORIGINAL-NOT a copy) form issued by the school the student will attend.

  • Evidence that the student has sufficient funds (i.e., a bank statement showing three months of activity, any other financial documents explaining the ability of the student to pay all the expenses while studying in the United States.

  • A passport valid for more than six months and a valid exit/re-entry visa for non-Saudi applicants.

  • Evidence that the student has a permanent residence abroad to which the student fully intends to return after temporary studies in the U.S.

  • Showing high school grade transcripts or academic transcripts are helpful in evaluating the application.

  • Any other information or documentation the Consular Officer determines to be necessary for adjudication of an application.


  • 2. Dependents of the student (spouse, children) require their own SEVIS I-20 form.

    3. The student must sign all the application forms and the bottom of the I-20.

    4. Under U.S. law, a student visa may not be issued more than 90 days in advance of the date specified on the I-20 form for the beginning of studies. You may not enter the U.S. more than 30 days before the date of beginning of studies.

    5. REMEMBER: you must always have a valid SEVIS I-20 form whenever entering the U.S. to begin or continue studies.

    Your application will be evaluated on its merits and in compliance with the relevant provisions of United States law and regulation. A decision on your application will be made in as timely a manner possible. Some applications require additional administrative processing that may result in delays.
