Congressman Burgess has a very creative and in-depth internship program. Interns are selected from the 26th District and the Washington, DC area. Congressman Burgess’ Washington office is very flexible with interns' schedules and very understanding of the work-school process. While on Capitol Hill interns complete a variety of tasks including corresponding with constituents, conducting Congressional Capitol tours, drafting legislative items and attending briefings. Interns get a wonderful opportunity to see politics from a very personal level. Check out the following stories from past intern participants:

As an intern for Representative Burgess I’ve had the good fortune of working in an office where interns are not limited only to performing the mundane tasks that many are relegated to in other offices. Besides performing diverse tasks inside the office, I have also attended legislative briefings on a myriad of issues, authored constituent correspondence and worked on numerous legislation-based research projects for legislative assistants. Being surrounded by the political environment here on Capital Hill has been an amazing experience and offers insight into the political system that cannot be taught in any textbook.” James Ficaro - Masters of Public Policy, James Madison University (Flower Mound, TX)

"I experienced things I never would have anywhere else; and not just work experiences either, but real life stuff that many people pay no attention to like looking up while jogging and finding yourself right in front of the Washington Monument or being stuck in traffic because the Presidential Motorcade is rushing through town. It’s the little things throughout the day that really make it worthwhile. The fact that I had the privilege to serve is a blessing." Andrew Acker, Graduate, Emergency Administration, University of North Texas (Argyle, TX); Andrew now works as the Staff Assistant in Congressman Burgess' District office in Lewisville.

"Capital Hill is buzzing with excitement and opportunity. Working on Capital Hill in Congressman Burgess’ office is a very rewarding experience. As an intern from Congressman Burgess’ District, I am exposed to a plethora of information and opportunities for growth and education in the legislative arena. Responsibilities such as organizing and distributing office and constituent mail, writing letters for the Congressman and his legislative assistants and conducting congressional tours are great ways of becoming aware of the various issues that concern constituents and of staying abreast of current events and proposed legislation."
