Available Tissue

Tissue availability is dependent on the collection schedule and prior sales. For tissue availability, contact the Office of Biological Resources and Resource Development Order Desk. Both Fischer (F) and Brown Norway (BN) animals and hybrids are available. Controls are caloric-restricted (CR) and ad libitum (AL).

Tissue Strains and Ages

Tissue is available from the following strains and ages:

F344 Rats: 4, 12, 18, 24, and 28 months

F344BN F1 Rats: 4, 18, 24, and 32 months

C57BL/6 Mice: 4, 12, 18, and 24 months

*CB6F1 (BALB/c x C57BL/6) Mice: 4, 18, 24, and 32

BALB/c Mice, CR and AL Controls: 8, 14, 20, and 24

Animals are euthanized by carbon dioxide asphyxiation, and fresh, unfixed tissue and organs are flash frozen in LN 2 and stored at –80 degrees Celcius. Special arrangements can be made for NIA-funded investigators for fixation of tissues or collection of additional ages or tissues such as bone. For more information, please contact Dr. Nancy Nadon.
