The NOHIC Thesaurus is a tool that simplifies searching the Combined Health Information Database (CHID) for citations related to oral health. CHID, chid.nih.gov, is produced by a consortium of Federal health agencies to provide a single source of health promotion and education materials that are not indexed elsewhere. Especially useful to dental students, scientists, and other researchers, the Thesaurus contains thousands of useful terms related to oral health.
All listings in the Thesaurus are accompanied by additional information that can enhance searching. For example, information on the broad term "disabilities" can also be reached by searching on the term "developmental disabilities". Depending on what you need to know about disabilities, the Thesaurus also suggests more specific, narrower search terms such as "autism," "Mobius syndrome," and "Down syndrome."
NOHIC has recently revised the Thesaurus, with updated keywords for more direct and time-saving searching. Copies of the NOHIC Thesaurus cost $15 each and are available from NOHIC. If you would like a copy, print out the NOHIC online order form and send it with a check or money order to NOHIC, 1 NOHIC Way, Bethesda, MD 20892-3500.
Please feel free to e-mail NOHIC with any questions or call (301) 402-7364.
