Technology:

PowerLight has created a roofing tile system which can significantly reduce roof deck temperatures through passive means.  This technology can also be integrated with electricity producing photovoltaic cells.  Our product invention offers building owners two ways to lower energy utility costs: photovoltaic clean energy generation and air conditioning load reduction.

Benefits:

The benefits of this product are utility cost offset for building owners particular in hot climates during summer months. This product provides a cost effective alternative to energy savings and energy generation.

Under this grant, PowerLight has created their next generation flagship product. During September 2002, Powerlight set up a new manufacturing line to produce in high volumes technology developed under this contract. The first full production run is scheduled to begin in October 2002 to produce over 200kW of tile corresponding to over 28,000 sq ft of tile product. The first commercial installation of this product is scheduled for November 2002. PowerLight plans to create a family of products incorporating technology developed under this grant. These products include a sloped and flat tile configuration which can mount on both low and steep slope roofs.
