Lead Detection System

Using technology born from and nurtured by Department of Energy Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grants, AndCare developed and three years ago commercialized a lead detection system.  This system received FDA approval as an invitro diagnostic device and is principally used to screen children for blood lead levels.  The sale of LeadCare sensors and instruments has increased in each of the three full years since the launch of the product.  Sales growth is being advanced by a steadily growing interest in State governments to screen their pre-school populations for lead exposure.  Each year has produced more scholarly research indicating that even extremely low blood lead levels are detrimental to the cognitive development, education, and socialization of young children.  State health agencies are convincing their governments that screening their very young populations in order to catch and eliminate lead exposure early is very cost effective compared to the expense of special education, law enforcement, and potentially long term incarceration.

Non-clinical lead testing with this technology is growing as well.  For example, to insure the safety of Quebec’s important maple syrup industry there are government / industry standards limiting the lead content in maple syrup.  Government and industry scientists have been purchasing and working with AndCare’s lead detection technology for the last year as they get their monitoring system up and running.  We are continuing to develop this technology to increase throughput and to automate sample treatment.  These innovations would dramatically expand our lead detection technology’s traditional market base.  Sales and revenues to date is around $1.5 Million.
