How can I learn to use GCG?

Take the course.
A course on GCG is taught once or twice a year at DCRT, by a visiting lecturer from the GCG group in Wisconsin. The course runs 5 days, 7 hours a day, and is an excellent introduction to the package. Check DCRT's Computer Training Catalog for dates and times.
Read the (hardcopy) manual.
You can get the GCG manuals from DCRT.
Read the online manual.
The command 'genmanual' will give you information about the programs/routines arranged by topic, such as "Fragment Assembly". This online help is arranged like the GCG manual, with groups of programs related to a particular topic (e.g. "Fragment Assembly").
The command 'genhelp' will give you help for a particular command or routine (e.g. "Bestfit"), and is arranged alphabetically by command.
Read or search the Web version of the manual.
