How can I learn to use GCG?
- Take the course.
- A course on GCG is taught once or twice a year at DCRT, by
a visiting lecturer from the GCG group in Wisconsin. The course
runs 5 days, 7 hours a day, and is an excellent introduction to
the package. Check
DCRT's Computer
Training Catalog for dates and times.
- Read the (hardcopy) manual.
- You can get the GCG
manuals from DCRT.
- Read the online manual.
- The command 'genmanual' will
give you information about the programs/routines arranged by
topic, such as "Fragment Assembly". This online help is arranged like
the GCG manual, with groups of programs related to a particular
topic (e.g. "Fragment Assembly").
- The command 'genhelp' will give you help for a particular
command or routine (e.g. "Bestfit"), and is arranged alphabetically
by command.
- Read or search the Web version of the manual.
- The entire GCG manual
available online, accessible through
the World Wide Web. It is organized by section/topic, and you can
also search for information about a particular. topic.
