Mutant Mouse Regional Resource Centers

The Mutant Mouse Regional Resource Centers (MMRRCs) Program consists of centers that collectively operate as a one-stop shop to serve the biomedical research community. The MMRRCs accept, maintain, and distribute mutant mouse strains for use in biomedical research. The centers take transgenics, knockouts, and all other kinds of induced mutant mouse lines at no cost to the donors, and after specific-pathogen-free (SPF) rederivation and cryopreservation, distribute mice for a small fee to requesting investigators for noncommercial, academic research purposes only.

The MMRRCs currently have a census of more than 6,000 mutant strains maintained as either actively breeding mouse colonies, frozen embryos or germplasm, and/or embryonic stem cell clones. Investigators interested in donating mouse strains or finding out what mice are available for distribution should visit: www.mmrrc.org for more information.

The NCRR Division of Comparative Medicine (DCM) supports the MMRRCs, which are electronically linked through the MMRRCs Informatics Coordinating Center (ICC) to function as one facility. The ICC, located at The Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor, Maine, provides database and other informatics support to the MMRRC to give the research community a single entry point to the program.

Genetically-Engineered Strains Now Available: If you are investigating mutant mouse strains for your research projects, please visit the Available Strains catalog on the MMRRC Web site. Also on that site, to search for MMRRC strains under development and to register interest, you may access the New Strains listing.
