Yakima Hops Site RCRA Cleanup Information

The Yakima Hops site is on the Confederated Tribes and Bands of the Yakama Indian Nation Reservation. Past wood treating operations contaminated soil and groundwater with pentachlorophenol (PCP), petroleum, and possibly dioxins. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has finalized a legal agreement with Yakima Hops, Inc. and Hop Union USA, Inc. to clean up environmental contamination at the Yakima Hops site and settle EPA claims. Work required under the proposed agreement includes doing a site assessment, cleaning up contamination, and monitoring the site to make sure people and the environment are protected. The U.S. EPA is working very closely and consulting with the Confederated Tribes and Bands of the Yakama Indian Nation regarding the site assessment and cleanup of this facility to insure that the concerns of the Tribe regarding their sovereign property are addressed.
