Geologic Information About Alaska

Often described as one of the last truly wild places in America, Alaska is famous for the variety of its wildlife. Alaska is also home to some of the world's most breathtaking snowcapped mountains (including the tallest peak in North America), numerous volcanoes, rich mineral deposits, and glaciers.

Whether a dog sled race or the thrill of seeing a brilliant glacier reflected in the chilly waters of a fjord lures you to the wilds of Alaska, it's an adventure you won't soon forget. If you're planning a trip to Alaska or are simply curious, we hope our collection of geology resources here will help you explore geology studies that are underway in Alaska and how they contribute to diverse problems such as understanding earthquake shaking, finding minerals, and evaluating volcanic hazards.
