Network of Support

The Family and Youth Services Bureau (FYSB) created its national support system to help local youth service agencies enhance their capacity to assist young people and their families. Through this system, FYSB supports a national hotline and referral system for runaway youth; offers conferences, trainings, peer monitoring, and onsite technical assistance; and documents effective practices and disseminates these to the youth service field. The system includes the following:

  • National Clearinghouse on Families & Youth (fact sheet):  FYSB established the National Clearinghouse on Families & Youth (NCFY) as a source of information for communities, organizations, and individuals interested in developing new and effective strategies for supporting young people and their families.  www.ncfy.com
  • National Runaway Switchboard (fact sheet):  The National Runaway Switchboard (NRS) assists runaway youth and their families by linking them to crisis counseling, programs and resources, and each other, as appropriate. The goal of the NRS is to ensure that young people in crisis have one central place to call for help. www.nrscrisisline.org
  • Regional Training and Technical Assistance (T/TA) Providers (fact sheet):  FYSB funds 10 organizations to provide assistance to local youth service agencies receiving Bureau funding. Each organization serves FYSB-funded projects in 1 of the 10 U.S. Department of Health and Human Services regions. (Click "fact sheet" above for a list of links to the Regional T/TA Providers' Web sites.)
  • Runaway and Homeless Youth Management Information System (fact sheet):  The Runaway and Homeless Youth Management Information System (RHYMIS) is an automated management information tool designed to capture data on the number of runaway and homeless youth being served by the FYSB grantee programs, demographic information on those youth, and the types of services being offered by the programs they turned to for assistance.  www.acf.dhhs.gov/programs/fysb/rhypage/homepage.htm
  • Runaway and Homeless Youth Program Monitoring System (fact sheet):  This system allows FYSB to assess the operation of its grantee programs, and to identify effective program practices and areas for improvement.
