Advisory Committees

The Office of Space Science receives guidance and advice from two separate Committees that have been established by the NASA Administrator pursuant to the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA) and consistent with the NASA Management Instruction 1150.2A.

We receive advice on science priorities and implementation strategies from the Space Science Advisory Committee, or SScAC. The purpose of SScAC is to advise the NASA Administrator, through the NASA Advisory Council (NAC), on Agency programs, policies, plans and other matters pertinent to space science.

The Planetary Protection Advisory Committee advises the NASA Administrator, through the NAC, on Agency programs, policies, plans, and other matters pertinent to the Agency's responsibilities for biological planetary protection.
