Title:
Immuno-Virological Evaluation of Human T Cell Leukemia Virus Type-1 Associated Myelopathy (HAM/TSP)
Number:
98-N-0047
Summary:
The purpose of this study is to obtain blood samples from three groups of subjects;

1. Patients infected with human T cell leukemia virus type-1 (HTLV-1) and clinical symptoms of HTLV-1 associated myelopathy (HAM) / tropical spastic paraparesis (TSP)

2. Family members of patients infected with human T cell leukemia virus type-1 (HTLV-1) and clinical symptoms of HTLV-1 associated myelopathy (HAM) / tropical spastic paraparesis (TSP)

3. Patients who have inconclusive blood test results on the presence of HTLV-1

The specimens will be used evaluate immune system function and to measure levels of the virus.
