DTIC Implements Interactive Form 55 Process

DTIC has implemented a new Web-based process for requesting limited documents. How does it work? The new Automated Form 55 is triggered to appear when a citation is retrieved from a search in Private STINET for which the requester is not authorized by his/her registration. The process allows registered users to complete their requests online and transmit directly to DTIC.

In addition, the new process is intended to be much faster and more efficient. Here's how:

• The releasing authority will receive each request electronically and can respond in the same manner to approve, disapprove or request additional information from DTIC.
• The ability to electronically transmit each request to the appropriate Releasing Agency will allow DTIC to know that it has been received. We will also know whenever there are transmission problems and when it is necessary to identify a new Releasing Agency for a particular action.

• The new automated process will significantly reduce turn around time, improve customer service and allow for electronic follow-up at thirty and sixty day intervals.

DTIC will continue to accept the traditional Form 55 from registered users by either fax or regular mail. However, DTIC encourages the use of the Automated Form 55 for those with access to the Internet. The Automated Form 55 can be found at: http://www.dtic.mil/dtic/forms/usr_form55.html.
