Army completes investigations of deaths at Bagram and forwards to respective commanders for action
The U. S. Army Criminal Investigation Command has completed and forwarded its reports of investigation in the deaths of two detainees under U. S. custody in Afghanistan in December 2002 to commanders for possible action against Soldiers deemed appropriate. The investigations began immediately following the deaths, which occurred at the Bagram Control Point, Bagram, Afghanistan, on December 4 and 10, 2002. These deaths have been the subject of several media reports, first reported in March 2003.
 
Fast Tracking… Army Reserve speeds Iraqi Army training
The U. S. Army Reserve’s 98th Division (Institutional Training) is heading to Iraq to take the lead in a historic training venture. The Reserve division will speed the training of the new Iraqi Army and provide command and control as part of the Army’s new Foreign Army Training Assistance Command or FA-TRAC.
 
Individual Ready Reserve (IRR) Reporting Process Roundtable
Army Officials will discuss the reporting process for the mobilization of the individual ready reserve (IRR) Soldiers today at a media roundtable. Mr. Robert H. Smiley, Principal Assistant for Training, Readiness, and Mobilization, Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army (Manpower and Reserve Affairs), and Brigadier General Sean J. Byrne, Director of Personnel Policy, will give an overview at 12:15 p.m. in the G1 Conference Room, 2E477.

ARMY ANNOUNCES FORT BENNING AND CAMP FRANK D. MERRILL, GEORGIA PARTNER FOR RESIDENTIAL COMMUNITIES INITIATIVE
Today, the Army announced its selection of Clark Pinnacle Communities, LLC (Clark Pinnacle) to develop the Community Development and Management Plan (CDMP) for Fort Benning and Camp Merrill, Ga., as part of the Army’s Residential Communities Initiative (RCI). Under the RCI Program, the Army plans to privatize family housing at 34 installations, almost 73,000 family housing units, located throughout the United States.
 
ARMY ANNOUNCES TEMPORARY RESTATIONING OF 2-2 ID
The Department of the Army announced today the temporary relocation of the 2nd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division, or 2-2 ID, from Korea to Fort Carson, Colo., following its current deployment to Iraq. This action will result in an increase of approximately 3,700 military authorizations at Fort Carson. The Army projects this temporary relocation for late summer 2005.
 
U.S. ARMY AIRSHIP MISSIONS OVER THE WASHINGTON DC METRO AREA, MARYLAND AND NORTHERN VIRGINIA
The U.S. Army plans to conduct mission flights of a leased commercial airship over the Washington, D.C. metro area, Maryland and Northern Virginia starting today and continuing through Oct. 2. The 178-foot-long, A-170 Lightship™ will be used in proof-of-concept mission flights for the Rapid Aerostat Initial Deployment (RAID) sensor equipment that is currently providing force protection to troops in Afghanistan and Iraq.
