To ensure you receive the latest copy of PLMS, clear your Web Browser's cache:

Whenever you receive "old" data from a web site, your browser is only showing you a cached copy of the page. Clearing your cache and then reloading the page should fix the problem.

In Netscape - goto EDIT/PREFERENCES and when the Preferences dialog box opens, click on the "+" beside ADVANCED in the left side. You will then see the CACHE choice. Click on CACHE and then you will see the Clear Cache buttons on the right. Clear both the disk and memory cache. Once this is done go further down in the dialog box where it says, "Document in cache is compared to document on network" and then pick the option EVERYTIME. Save these changes, restart the PC and then attempt to download the file again.

In Internet Explorer - on the main menu bar -
For Version 4.0 goto VIEW and then INTERNET OPTIONS
For Version 5.0 & 6.0 goto TOOLS and then INTERNET OPTIONS

In either case, once the Internet Options dialog box opens, goto the Temporary Internet Files section and click on the DELETE FILES button - DELETE ALL TEMP FILES; select "Delete OffLine Content," and clear your "History Files." Once that is done, click on the SETTINGS button and pick the choice: Check for newer versions of stored pages - "Every visit to the page." Save these changes, restart the PC and then download the file.

ALSO: You should delete all "Temp," "Windows Temp," and "Temporary Internet Files" daily. Otherwise you'll find one day your PC won't boot, or will work super-slow because the hard drive is plugged up with INTERNET temp and cache files.

To download PLMS read and follow the instructions below:

Double-click on the PLMSZIP ICON of choice below and the download should begin automatically.

When the system asks you where to save the file, respond with C:\PUBS. PLMS will only run from the C:\PUBS directory, if you do not have such a directory on your hard drive, then you must create one and save PLMSZIP in that directory.

To extract the files: If you downloaded the ".txt" file, be sure to change the file name extension to ".exe" before you attempt to extract the files.

1) Save PLMSZIP.EXE in your C:\PUBS directory; downloaded file byte count should be 1.2 - 1.5meg.
2) In W95/98 goto the MS DOS prompt; in WNT and W2K goto the "Command Prompt."
3) Change Directory to the C:\PUBS directory (e.g., cd\pubs)
4) At the C:\PUBS> prompt, type PLMSZIP and press enter.
5) PLMS should extract three files.
6) Type OPEN and press enter.
7) Respond Y to any/all queries pertaining to overwriting existing files.
8) Press Enter to Continue as appropriate until you see "PLMS IS NOW READY"
9) Verify all went well, check the C:\PUBS directory, file count should be at least 38 and may be as much as 45 depending on which version of Windows you are using. In some versions Windows adds systems files to each directory/folder and those files will be reflected in the file count.
10) Return to the "Command Prompt".
11) Insert either your PLMS Section Diskette or a blank "formatted" diskette into drive A:
12) At the C:\PUBS> prompt type PUBS and press enter - PLMS should run

The current PLMSZIP file is the 3rd Qtr 2004 update; files are current as of date 1 Oct 2004: (Quarterly updates are released at end of each quarter incorporating changes made during the quarter).

For additional information concerning the installation and use of PLMS, please consult chapters 4 & 5 of the PLMS User's Manual. If you do not have a copy of the PLMS UM you can obtain a copy from the MCPEL/MCEFS CD-ROM. The abbreviated version is contained within the PLMSZIP file as a "ReadMe" file. If you are NOT receiving copies of the MCPEL/MCEFS CD-ROM you can get your unit on subscription for it via MCPDS. Have your unit DCP add your unit IAC to PCN #71000025200 for however many copies your unit requires - no restriction on quantity. Your MCPEL/MCEFS subscription will begin with the next quarterly update.

This is the new 3rd QTR CY04 update complete with EDO pubs. Be sure to clear your cache before you download to ensure you get the new file instead of the old one.

Note: The file is posted twice, once with file name extension ".exe" and a second time with file name extension ".doc." The two files are identical, the ".doc" named file is provided for those of you behind a firewall that prevents download of ".exe" files. If you download the ".doc" file, be sure to change the file name extension back to ".exe" before you attempt to extract the files.

For those of you who are behind a firewall that will prevent you from downloading a ".exe" file and/or a zip file containing an ".exe" file - the PLMS Quarterly update is also contained on the MCPEL/MCEFS CD-ROM. Copy it directly from the CD to your C:\PUBS directory; after you copy it, be sure to "Attrib" the file to remove the "Read Only" attribute assigned the file by Windows (e.g., C:\ attrib C:\PUBS\*.* -r)

For Windows 2000 user's:

MCNOSC ASB has found a solution for the W2K print problem. W2K user's need to add the following "NET USE" command in either their profile, the Autoexec.Bat file, or create a Pubs.BAT file for "Command Line" execution at startup, or type it at the Command Prompt every time they start PLMS:
C:NET USE LPT1 \\PRINTSERVICESERVER'sSHARENAME\PRINTER'sSHARENAME (No Spaces)
Real world example: C:>NET USE LPT1 \\MCSC04R\SMCSC3086CO1
Contact your local ISMO for assistance in determining the appropriate "\\PRINTSERVICESERVER'sSHARENAME\PRINTER'sSHARENAME" for your specific site and printer.

For Windows NT user's:
The above W2K solution may also be used within Windows NT with Service Pack 6 or higher.
