Greeting from Col. Freund, Head, Promotion Branch (MMPR)

Marines,

Welcome to the Promotion Branch Homepage. We hope you find it informative and useful. Our mission at MMPR remains to ensure every Marine, officer and enlisted, receives a fair and equitable opportunity for advancement and to see everyone gets promoted on time. My guidance to all my staff is to maintain the fairness of the promotion selection process and to demystify the process for all Marines.

At the bottom of this Homepage, you will find links to the Enlisted Promotion and Officer Promotion web pages which will give you information on past and current boards. There you can find information on how to prepare for your next board and copies of published promotion ALNAVs and MARADMINs, convening notices and revised promotion zones. You will also find information on how to submit for special selection boards (officers) and remedial selection boards (enlisted).

Based on the many years of experience of the staff here at Promotions Branch, here are our recommendations for ensuring you are as competitive as possible for your next promotion selection board:

- Submit a photograph. It is a requirement and it shows you can follow directions. It shows you care, whether below zone, in zone, or above zone. (If you are deployed and do not have the capability to submit a digital photograph, see MARADMIN 066/03 for guidance.)

- Complete your Professional Military Education (PME). PME is required for enlisted selection boards. While PME is not a requirement for officer selection boards, it CAN make you better qualified and more competitive for selection.

- Personally check your Official Military Personnel File (OMPF) and your Master Brief Sheet (MBS). These are the only tools that the selection board has to determine if you should be promoted to the next higher rank. Ensure your records are up to date. (Go to the Support Branch Website at https://www.mmsb.usmc.mil/howtoget.htm to request a copy of your OMPF and MBS.) Remember that it is the individual Marine's responsibility to ensure their record is accurate. Check your records 6 months out so you have time to fix errors. Remember that the OMPF and MBS are separate records. Review both of them. Wrong information in your record or MCTFS is not grounds for remedial or special consideration if you have not taken measures to correct the error.

- Send copies of your last fitness report and any recent awards or school certificates that may not have made it into your record to the President of your respective board. Remember all such material must be submitted by you under a signed cover letter and must arrive at Promotions Branch no later than midnight on the day your board convenes. (See the convening MARADMIN for your specific board for detailed guidance.)
    - Finally, if you have any questions, give us a call or send us an e-mail. We have an experienced staff here at the Promotions Branch who will do all we can to ensure your questions on promotions are answered correctly. The Enlisted Promotion and Officer Promotion web pages have phone numbers and emails for all key POCs. While the answer we give to your question may not be what you want to hear, I guarantee you it will be an honest answer that maintains the integrity and fairness of our promotion process.

Good luck on your future boards!
