Our Mission

JIATF West's mission is to conduct counterdrug detection and monitoring operations and support U.S. country teams, partner nation counterdrug forces, and interdiction operations within the USPACOM AOR to disrupt narcotics-related trafficking organizations. To accomplish this mission, JIATF West provides intelligence and training support to disrupt transportation of illegal drugs in SE and SW Asia and supports intelligence-cued Counter Narco-Terrorism detection and monitoring operations.

Our History

Headquartered on Coast Guard Island, Alameda, California, JIATF West is manned by approximately 115 active duty personnel from all 5 uniformed services, military reservists, Department of the Navy civilians, and liaison officers of the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (formerly the U.S. Customs Service), Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), and Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI). JIATF West is Commander U.S. Pacific Command’s (CDR USPACOM’s) executive agent for Department of Defense (DOD) support to counterdrug initiatives in the Area of Responsibility (AOR). In addition, JIATF West provides counterdrug assistance and support in the U.S. Central Command (USCENTCOM) and U.S. Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) AORs.
