Blue Ridge Sailors Excel During DSRA  

YOKOSUKA, Japan  (May 25, 2004) - Cryptologic Technician - Technical 3rd Class Mathew Donatelli, from Pittsburgh, uses a sander to sand the deck in the print shop aboard USS Blue Ridge (LCC 19) May 25. YOKOSUKA, Japan -- Sailors aboard USS Blue Ridge (LCC 19), and civilian contractors, are continuing their work to complete $30 million worth of repairs and upgrades during the ship's Dry Dock Selected Restricted Availability (DSRA) here.

The amphibious command ship - and flagship for U.S. Seventh Fleet - entered the DSRA April 14 and is expected to last several months.

     Blue Ridge Earns Second Consecutive "Battle E"

YOKOSUKA, Japan – USS Blue Ridge (LCC 19) earned the Battle Efficiency Award for the second year in a row March 31. The award recognizes a ship for superior performance and a day-to-day demonstration of excellence. 

Capt. Steve Maynard, Blue Ridge commanding officer, said, “Winning the Battle ‘E’ during my major sea command (tour) is one (award) I will always remember, even after I retire.” 

Blue Ridge, the command ship for the U.S. Seventh Fleet, earned the award for large deck amphibious ships through overall teamwork and excelling in each department, said Lt. Brad Juhl, the ship’s operations officer.

ONBOARD USS BLUE RIDGE (LCC-19) AT SEA, MARCH 15, 2004-Culinary Specialists Jason R. Mortis, Jeffery Carroll, and Jamie D. Vallejos prepare lobster for a special dinner celebration for winning the 2003 NEY competition aboard USS Blue Ridge (LCC-19).  The Blue Ridge was the recent recipient of the 2003 NEY award for food service excellence.  The Blue Ridge is homeported in Yokosuka, Japan.

Stephen Maynard, Commanding Officer, USS Blue Ridge (LCC 19), conducts a promotion ceremony for selected Petty Officers during a frocking ceremony in the Naval Ship Repair Facility dry dock. Blue Ridge is undergoing an extensive dry dock maintenance period. The 7th Fleet command and control ship Blue Ridge is forward deployed to Yokosuka, Japan. 7th Fleet command ship duties have been temporarily transferred to USS Coronado (AGF 11), which deployed from its homeport of San Diego, Calif., earlier this year. USS Blue Ridge rests in the Naval Ship Repair Facility dry dock located in Yokosuka, Japan.   

BEIJING, China February 26, 2004-- Commander Seventh Fleet and USS Blue Ridge (LCC-19) Sailors hike down the Great Wall of China during a Blue Ridge Morale Welfare and Recreation (MWR) tour of Beijing. Blue Ridge, the command ship of U.S. Seventh Fleet, arrived here Feb. 24.  While in Shanghai, Sailors and Marines from the ship and embarked staff took in the local culture and interacted with their counterparts from the People's Liberation Army (Navy).  The ship is forwarded deployed to Yokosuka, Japan.
