Pacific Fleet Master Chief Petty Officer



Master Chief Rodriguez a native of Detroit, Michigan, joined the U.S. Navy in 1970 and attended basic training at Recruit Training Center, Great Lakes Illinois.


Master Chief Rodriguez first saw duty aboard USS POCONO (LCC 16). He was a fleet input to Yeoman "A" school in Bainbridge, Maryland. Upon completion, he was assigned to Naval Air Maintenance Training Detachment, Norfolk, for a brief tour followed by an assignment to the J-2 Staff, Commander in Chief, Atlantic.

Master Chief Rodriguez then served with the Staff, Commander Amphibious Group Two aboard USS Mount Whitney (LCC 20). While attached he was selected as the Amphibious Group Two Staff Sailor of the Quarter and later as Sailor of the Year. Tours include Staff, Supreme Allied Commander Atlantic and Educational Service Officer, USS BELLEAU WOOD (LHA 3). While onboard USS BELLEAU WOOD (LHA 3) he qualified as an Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist and was advanced to Senior Chief Petty Officer.


In January 1986, Master Chief Rodriguez was selected to attend the Senior Enlisted Academy in Newport, Rhode Island. Following graduation he was assigned as Military Secretary for Strategic Plans and Policy Directorate, Joint Chiefs of Staff, Washington, D.C., and was advanced to Master Chief Petty Officer. Most noteworthy during his tour at JCS he was hand selected to represent the U.S. Navy at a Joint Service Award Ceremony in which he was personally awarded the Defense Meritorious Service Medal by the Commander in Chief.


In March 1989, he was selected, Command Master Chief, USS LEAHY (CG 16). Deploying twice to the Persian Gulf of which the later was in support of Desert Storm. In November 1991, Master Chief Rodriguez assumed the duties of Command Master Chief, Naval Air Station, Barbers Point, Hawaii. There he qualified as an Enlisted Air Warfare Specialist. Master Chief Rodriguez last duty station was Command Master Chief, USS ESSEX (LHD 2). In October 1997, Master Chief Rodriguez assumed the duty as the Force Master Chief, Naval Surface Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet. In November 1999, Master Chief Rodriguez assumed the duty as the Twelfth Fleet Master Chief, Commander in Chief, U.S. Pacific Fleet.


His personal awards include Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Two Meritorious Service Medals, Two Navy Commendation Medals, Navy Achievement Medal, Seven Good Conduct Awards, as well as unit and campaign awards.
