Directorate of Occupational Health Sciences
Entomological Sciences Program
Our mission is to maximize the ability for Army units and installations to protect
the soldier from the health threat posed by vector-borne disease and medically
important pests and to minimize the adverse effects of pesticides.
Ergonomics Program
We provide installation-level ergonomic services, consultation and training
for the US Army. Muscoskeletal disorders account for the vast majority of injuries
and illnesses affecting our active duty and civilian workforce. Many of these
conditions are directly related to the workers' tasks, tools and workstations.
USACHPPM is the only organization in the US Army providing applied ergonomics
services, addressing the health and readiness effects for poor workstation,
task and tool design.
Health Hazard Assessment Program
Our mission is to identify, assess, and make recommendations to eliminate or control health hazards associated with the life cycle management of weapons, equipment, clothing, training devices, and materiel systems.
Health Physics Program
We provide professional and technical guidance to war fighters, as well as,
expertise to protect the soldier, their environment and the general public.
We identify and eliminate or control health hazards associated with life-cycle
management of weapons, equipment and material. We sustain regulatory compliance
to enhance overall mission readiness.
Industrial Hygiene Field Services Program
Our mission is to provide the services of subject matter experts assisting military
leaders, facility managers, and occupational health and safety personnel in
anticipation, recognition, evaluation and control of occupational and environmedntal
health hazards.
Industrial Hygiene & Medical Safety Management Program
Our program has a multi-faceted mission that provides expert services in industrial
hygiene and medical safety management. We support Army readiness and contribute
to the enhanced occupational health of the industrial base by providing management
consultations, training, and automation support to industrial hygiene at all
levels. Our services assist military leaders, facility managers, and occupational
health and safety personnel through effective and efficient management of industrial
hygiene programs. We are the Army's experts in the Joint Commission on
Accreditation of Healthcare Organization's (JCAHO's) environment of care standards
and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA's) hospital safety
standards. We support the Army Medical Department by promoting a systematic
approach for providing a safe environment of care for the Army's war fighters
and their families and a safe environment of work for the Army's healthcare
providers.
Laser and Optical Radiation Hazards Program
Our mission is to ensure that soldiers, aviators, and other Army personnel and
civilians are not exposed to potential hazards associated with the operation
of high intensity optical sources such as laser target designators, infrared
countermeasures, industrial optical sources, nonlethal weapons and other high
technology optical sources. No other organization, either within DOD or in the
private sector, can provide the breadth and depth of services in the evaluation
of optical radiation hazards.
Occupational Health Management
Information System
Our mission is two fold. We continually evaluate and improve the effectiveness
of the Army Occupational Health program through the use of information technology.
We also manage the design, development, implementation, integration, and support
activities for the Department of Defense Occupational Health Readiness System
(DOHRS).
RadioFrequency Ultrasound Program
We provide support to US Army, DOD, and other federal occupational health and
preventive medicine programs regarding protection of human health from exposure
to radiofrequency radiation and ultrasound.
