SIXTH Fleet Band

Band Master, SIXTH Fleet Band
PSC 817, Box 47
FPO AE 09622-0047

SIXTH Fleet Band is the U.S. Navy's official band in Europe. Stationed in Naples, Italy, and under the operational control of Commander, SIXTH Fleet, the Band travels and performs in port cities in the Mediterranean Sea, Black Sea, and in the U.K. Performing in locations as diverse as Reykjavik, Iceland and Zagreb, Croatia, the Band reached a combined audience of over 20,000,000 people in the course of over 300 engagements last year.

The primary mission of SIXTH Fleet Band is support of military ceremonies such as changes of command, ship arrivals and departures, official receptions and other occasions which serve to enhance the morale and welfare of fleet personnel. The Band is equally involved in promoting international community relations.

The Band is comprised of professional Navy Musicians who are formed into full-time and specialty units designed to fulfill any possible request for musical support. These units include the ceremonial band, a 7-piece Top-40 group (The Navigators), and a 17-piece Fleet Jazz Ensemble, which performs both the big-band hits of the past and the R & B sounds of today, as well as various jazz or brass ensembles as needed.

Whether the band performs American marches or Top-40 hits, or offers renditions of local international favorites, it clearly demonstrates the universal language of music.
