Navy Band Northeast was established in 1974 and is one of fourteen official bands of
the United States Navy. The band serves as the musical ambassador for Commander, Navy
Region Northeast and is comprised of 45 professional Navy musicians. Navy Band Northeast
performs over 500 engagements each year in support of military and civilian communities
throughout the Northeastern United States and features seven primary performing units: The
Concert Band, Ceremonial Band, The Northeast Navy Showband, Rhode Island Sound, Top Brass
Quintet, VIP Combo, and Forecast.
The Concert Band performs Navy Band Northeast’s Summer Concerts on the Lawn series
and for special holiday concerts. The Concert Band has been featured in newly published
music workshops and has performed with renowned guest artists, among them conductor and
composer James Curnow.
The Ceremonial Band provides musical support for formal military ceremonies including
changes of command, retirements, and pass-in-review ceremonies, and for the civilian
community in parades and patriotic opening ceremonies. Ceremonial Band engagements serve
to heighten esprit de corps throughout the Navy community, promote patriotism, and
increase public awareness of the Navy within the general public.
The Northeast Navy Showband
This eighteen-member unit performs contemporary jazz, big band hits, and patriotic
favorites to audiences with a wide rage of musical tastes. The Showband has been featured
at Boston's Berklee College of Music, New York City's Fleet Week Celebration, and many
public concerts in colleges, secondary schools, and towns across New England.
Rhode Island Sound is a six-piece group that performs current contemporary and classic
rock and country. They tour throughout New England in support of Navy recruiting and
provide music for a wide variety of occasions including military balls and receptions and
public concerts.
Top Brass Quintet performs a wide range of musical styles encompassing everything from
traditional and modern brass quintet literature to dixieland and patriotic marches. The
Quintet’s performances range from public concerts and educational clinics to small
military ceremonies. This versatile unit’s performances are appreciated by audiences
of all ages.
This highly versatile group performs for military receptions and dinners as well as
concerts for high schools and colleges. The combo covers a wide range of styles in the
jazz idiom, from standards to today's hits.
Our newest ensemble is a vocal based jazz ensemble and performs a wide range of musical
styles. This group provides easy-listening for receptions as well as high-energy jazz for
college and concert audiences.
